Why Replacing Your Windshield Can Break Your Car's Safety Features (And What Calibration Actually Fixes)
Modern windshields may support cameras, sensors, displays, and other equipment. The procedure after replacement is vehicle-specific; the manufacturer's published procedure controls.

The core idea
A windshield can be part of the vehicle's sensing system.
Many vehicles place a forward-facing camera or related hardware near the windshield. Replacing glass can affect mounting, optical conditions, or the manufacturer-required verification steps for those systems.
That does not mean every windshield job requires the same calibration. The required work depends on the exact vehicle, its equipment, and the manufacturer's published procedure.

Static, dynamic, or both
Static calibration generally uses specified targets and controlled positioning. Dynamic calibration generally uses a prescribed drive cycle and road conditions. Some vehicle procedures call for one method, some for the other, and some may require both or a different verification approach.
Static calibration
The process may require target placement, floor conditions, measurements, scan tooling, and setup instructions set by the manufacturer. It is not a universal driveway procedure.
Dynamic calibration
The process may require a particular road environment, speed range, markings, and scan-tool steps. A successful drive is not a substitute for a static procedure when the manufacturer requires one.
Other windshield features
Rain sensors, heating elements, acoustic layers, and head-up display glass can also affect component choice and post-installation checks, even when they are not ADAS calibration in the narrow sense.
Documentation matters
Ask what procedure was followed, whether it was completed to manufacturer specifications, and what written documentation you will receive.
What a completed—or failed—calibration notice means
For the covered circumstances in Act 327, a shop must provide written notice about whether calibration or recalibration was successful according to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications and whether a certified dealership or qualified specialist is recommended if it was not.
A result or scan report should be read alongside the manufacturer's published procedure and the repair documentation. It is not a blanket promise about every driver-assistance feature under every operating condition.
