Louisiana auto-glass law

As reviewed September 8, 2026, La. R.S. 32:1304(A)(4)(a)-(c) applies different criteria to the eight-and-one-half-inch by eleven-inch acute area, the driver-side wiper-swept critical area, and remaining windshield areas; in the remaining areas, cracks jeopardizing windshield integrity are cause for rejection.

Act No. 701 (2026), Section 6 states that for parishes subject to federal vehicle Inspection and Maintenance requirements the Act takes effect if and when EPA adopts LDEQ's proposed State Implementation Plan amendments; for all other parishes it takes effect January 1, 2027.

LDEQ identifies Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Iberville, Livingston, and West Baton Rouge as the five parishes whose registered vehicles are subject to Louisiana's vehicle Inspection and Maintenance rule.

Under La. R.S. 22:1892(D)(1), an insurer making a payment incident to a claim may not require window-glass repair or replacement at a particular shop or by a particular entity.

Under La. R.S. 22:1892(D)(2), an insurer that recommends a particular motor-vehicle service or repair network must inform the insured or claimant that they are not obligated to use it.
